Pro-Israel --> Zionist[edit]

The two aren't interchangeable. For one thing, RS do not use the two terms interchangeably, almost exclusively preferring "pro-Israel". The redirect should be corrected, perhaps to reflect to Israel lobby or something to that effect, to reflect the differentiation, and to comply with WP:COMMONNAME. Longhornsg (talk) 06:33, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Longhornsg Thanks for the comment. I'm not seeing the distinction, but it is a discussion worth having, as both terms appear frequently in print. I would recommend a broader community discussion over this before the redirect is charged, to invite other perspectives. Perhaps the distinction between "Zionist" and "pro-Zionist" can also be poked at. My main caution is that we must be vigilant to not endorse a view which construes Zionism and Zionists as automatically Jewish and "pro-Zionists" and being "pro-Israel" as automatically non-Jewish, as that would be inaccurate and in my view antisemitic. Perhaps some people use "pro-Israel" because they might perceive "Zionist" as having a more negative connotation. Why proud Zionists wouldn't champion the term, I don't know. Maybe as PR. Is there scholarly discussion about these terminological distinctions? Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 08:06, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bohemian Baltimore @Longhornsg
I don't know what is the background to this discussion, but as for the distinction between "Pro-Israel" and "Zionist", in my opinion it is simple.
Zionism is the ideology that Jews have the right of self-determination in (all or part) of their historical homeland. Anyone who subscribe to this view is therefore a Zionist. Pro-Israeli is someone who likes and supports Israel and maybe even acts or speaks in her favor.
This means that the set of "Pro-Israelis" is a subset of the set of "Zionists". That is anyone who is pro-Israeli is necessarily a Zionist, for it's quite impossible to love and support a state without believing that it has a right to exist. But you can be a Zionist and not be pro-Israeli, if you believe that it has a right to exist but are indifferent to it beyond that. For example I definitely think that Uruguay has a right to exist, but otherwise I'm quite indifferent to it. One can have a similar view on Israel. Vegan416 (talk) 20:16, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

January 2024[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Donald Edmond Pelotte. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Cabayi (talk) 11:16, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Articles on ANCSA village entities[edit]

Almost every article I've spot-checked so far is a blatant WP:NOTDIR violation. Do you honestly suppose other editors are going to come along and fill in that content? Based on past experience, it's highly doubtful that will happen anytime soon. Also, almost all of the accompanying categories run afoul of WP:CATDEF; as such, they also run afoul of WP:EPON. Let me know what help you require in straightening that out before someone comes along and nominates it all for deletion. Almost all of them were created recently. Over the last few months, I've begun to create and add more information on Alaska Native tribes. Previously, I've edited and created articles on Native American tribes in the contiguous USA for the last several years. I'll try to add more to the existing articles on federally recognized tribes before I create any more. Take care. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 01:01, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:American people who self-identify as being of Lipan Apache descent requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Aromanticism and Asexuality are the A of LGBTQIA+ and Intersex is the I and is inherently an LGBTQIA+ identity[edit]

stop You recently made an erroneous new group of categories that misrepresent certain identities on the LGBTQIA+ community. Aromanticism, Asexuality and Intersex are inherently part of the LGBTQIA+ community and are not separate.

Please undo all the changes you have made with this regard as they are incorrect and misrepresent these identities. The reason why Wikipedia uses LGBT to identity the entirety of the LGBTQIA+ community is a separate topic, of which we have regular discussions for renaming, but it doesn't change the fact that other queer identities are part of it and should not be othered out.

Aromanticism is also NOT a subcategory of Asexuality as you erroneously changed here - please stop this editing immediately and undo all these wrong changes.

I recommend you seek guidance at Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies before making any further of these sweeping changes. Raladic (talk) 16:11, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Raladic They are not erroneous as LGBT intersex people and LGBT asexuals people exist. There are plenty of intersex people who identify as cisgender heterosexuals and plenty of asexuals who identify as cis/heteroromantic or straight. Being a gay asexual or a trans asexual or an intersex lesbian is a meaningful intersection of two oppressed groups, a minority within a minority. The changes have already been undone by other editors. But I insist that to erase and eradicate the specificity of queer asexuals and queer intersex people is both deeply homophobic and transphobic. Perhaps not in intent, but certainly in the result. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 10:28, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your error stems from the misunderstanding that is how we consider LGBT as encompassng all parts of the LGBTQIA+ umbrella per current Wikipedia consensus. It just hasn't been renamed because consensus for what to rename it to (LGBT vs LGBTQ vs LGBTQ+ and so on) has been difficult (you can find a whole lot of history of rename discussions at LGBT).
Since Asexual, Aromantic and and Intersex are inherently part of that community umbrella, it is redundant to say that someone who is Asexual is also LGBTQIA+ with a different category, hence the categories you created misrepresent this and imply that they were not already part of the umbrella by othering them out. Raladic (talk) 14:16, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pansexuality is not the same as bisexuality[edit]

I've reverted your category changes. You can be pansexual and not bisexual. Bisexuality is about attracted to multiple genders, while pansexuality is about being attracted to all genders. Mason (talk) 17:28, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Smasongarrison Bisexuality was already the parent category for pansexuality. I merely made the subcats match. As you said, bisexuality is attraction to two or more genders. That's the widely accepted term in that community. Thus, pansexuality is part of the bi umbrella. But it seems like as usual, Wikipedia is woefully behind the times. There are a score of terms like omnisexual, polysexual, plurisexual, multisexual. All of those terms fit comfortably under the bi+ umbrella. It makes zero sense to have multiple scattershot categories that serve to detract from navigability rather than help. That's why identities like genderfluid, genderqueer, etc are placed as subcategories of "non-binary" on Wikipedia. It simply makes sense in terms of navigation of content. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 10:03, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
these are not the same. All genders is not the same as multiple genders. Mason (talk) 12:01, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison It falls under the same umbrella because "all genders" are "two or more genders". All is more than two. This is a common understanding, not something I invented. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 17:26, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You placed pansexuality as being nested within of bisexual, which is the opposite of what you are saying here. Regardless, my point is that your interpretation of what "makes sense" is not in line with how many others view these nested structures. Mason (talk) 18:37, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison I placed the pan biographical categories within the bi biographical categories as subcats, matching the fact that the category for pansexuality was already a subcat of bisexuality. I simply made the categorization consistent. Not all bi people are pansexual, but pansexuality falls under the bi+ umbrella. Here's an example of this very common definition from bi.org: "Terms that fall under the bi umbrella include pansexual (attraction to all genders, with a political emphasis on trans and non-binary gender identities), polysexual and multisexual (attraction to multiple sexes), and omnisexual (attraction to all sexes)." The Human Rights Commission, citing the leading bi activist Robyn Ochs, states that a "broad definition of bisexuality includes people who identify as pansexual, queer, fluid and other labels that suggest potential attraction to more than one gender." This is a mainstream definition, but as usual Wikipedia has a molasses-like ability to keep up with language everyone else has been using for the last 10 to 15 years. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 19:49, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to change the parent category structure, I recommend you do so through seeking consensus at CFD and a broader RFD. Rather than unilaterally doing so, like you did in this case. Mason (talk) 21:23, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison Not unilaterally, as some of the pansexual categories were already subcats of bi categories. But I can certainly do that. I'm unaware of any written consensus supporting the opposite, in deletion/merging discussions or LGBT WikiProject guidelines. Are you? Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 21:46, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can pretty clearly see some written consensus in the ongoing discussion. However, I'm not going to do your homework for you. Mason (talk) 22:09, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison So then, no, there is no record of any "deletion/merging discussions or LGBT WikiProject guidelines" stating such a consensus. Thanks for the clarification. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 22:28, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Bannock indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 23:26, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad I found someone else who knows about the erasure of intersex people, transgender people and LGBTQ+ people. I also cannot understand why so many people dishonestly want to disprove the fact that there are many overlaps between groups of LGBTQ+ people and non-LGBTQ+ people, whether they are intersex or endosex, cisgender or transgender, binary or non-binary or agender.

I wonder whether we can gather off-wiki support for opposing this deletion? I'm a member of a discord server for LGBTQ+ people (https://discord.gg/gay) and if you want to join it, we can discuss with many people who are more progressive. — CrafterNova [ TALK ] [ CONT ] 16:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) CrafterNova, please see WP:Canvassing. Contacting a specific set of people offwiki and getting them to express a certain view onwiki goes against Wikipedia's system of consensus decision-making. It's almost always considered disruptive. — ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 17:22, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ezlev: Alright. I agree, no off-wiki discussions. I still wonder how on-wiki support can be gathered for opposing such deletions, since many users don't want to listen to intersex people who are not LGBTQ+, such as Betsy Driver, Lisa Lee Dark, Sally Gross, Esther Morris Leidolf, Sarah Gronert, Phoebe Hart, Bonnie Hart. — CrafterNova [ TALK ] [ CONT ] 09:41, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
