Women cricketers[edit]

Hi MPK - hope you are well. I've (re)created all the missing Sri Lankan cricketers, apart from Ganga De Silva. Couldn't find anything about her, despite a World Cup selection, and there's no DOB on Cricinfo. If you can find anything, feel free to change the redirect. I'll look at the Pakistan players shortly. Give me a ping if any others are missing. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:27, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: Thanks for making those pages. CricketArchive has a tiny bit more on de Silva, but I'll have a further look around. Good luck with the Pakistan players, looks like there's been some disputes on some of them before/again seems to be not much info on them, but I'm happy to help if needed. Also I assume you noticed that I finished off the missing Netherlands players. Cheers! Mpk662 (talk) 21:58, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Yes, I checked the Dutch list and saw there were no more red links. Nice work again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:17, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

English Women Cricketers infobox[edit]

Hi, there. Cheers! .Cricket Archive, u can access a player's profile from its homepage, it's fine. But, when u access from women cricketer's infobox reference, u would asked to subscribe or login. Then how a common reader other than editors can access the ref page? (Irrespective of international records only in Cricinfo). Hope u get my point. Thanks:) Kirubar (talk) 12:37, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I use the CricketArchive link because that is the source for all (or at least the majority of) the information in the infobox - primarily because domestic stats are not available anywhere else, as you say. CricketArchive is behind a paywall, but that doesn't rule out using it as a source (see Wikipedia:Verifiability#Access to sources). I get that there are some ways of bypassing the paywall on CricketArchive but it's not really up to Wikipedia to attempt to facilitate this. If you use the Cricinfo link, that doesn't represent the full source for the infobox, and any reader may click on the link expecting to see domestic stats only to find them missing, and wonder what source was actually used for the infobox. A player's Cricinfo profile is still able to be accessed via the External Links section, usually, too. Basically, in my opinion, CricketArchive is the best source for an infobox, regardless of whether a reader can access it without paying. Hope this helps Mpk662 (talk) 13:06, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I can able to get the point. I'm confused because Cricket Archive only used in English Women Cricketers particularly in articles created by you. So only, I get it to you. Anyway it looks fine. I will also update infobox using Cricket Archive in specific cases. How about using Cricket Archive throughout Wikipedia, will it be any consensus issues or else article creator's wish? . Just asking. Thanks:) Kirubar (talk) 05:14, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, glad we can agree! On using CricketArchive throughout Wikipedia, I am definitely for that for women cricketers (for men it's not as big an issue, as Cricinfo will usually have domestic stats as well), which is why as you say all pages that I have created/edited will use CricketArchive. I'm slowly updating players from other countries with domestic stats and using CricketArchive as the link if needed, but really it's up to the editor's choice. As there aren't that many people editing women cricketers pages, there isn't really that much debate though, so it seems fine to continue in this way - any help would be appreciated! Cheers - Mpk662 (talk) 07:52, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Fine. Thanks :) Kirubar (talk) 09:47, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How about switching Senior Women's T20 League to Women's Senior T20 League? As we did earlier for Senior Women's One Day League to Women's Senior One Day Trophy. Women's and Senior these words have to be swapped over (Looks odd). Let me know about your views. Thanks Kirubar (talk) 14:01, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

BCCI website has it as Women's Senior T20 Trophy (not League) so yeah it would make sense to move 2019–20 Senior Women's T20 League, 2021–22 Senior Women's T20 League and Senior Women's T20 League to Senior Women's T20 Trophy etc. Thanks for pointing that one out! Women's cricket tours[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you are creating different women's cricket tours' articles. But you are creating two tours in one articles in some cases, such as- Pakistani women's cricket team in England and Ireland in 2013 and many more. But as much I know, as these are different tours they should have a separate articles. And the dates of the tours are different, so I think those should be created separately. Hope u get my point. Thanks.  A.A Prinon  Leave a dialogue 13:12, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I did think about this before I started making pages, but I decided to do it the way I have a for a few reasons:
  • They are effectively the same tour: on the page you mentioned, for example, I doubt the Pakistan team went home in between, instead touring England then immediately touring Ireland, with the same players etc.
  • Often, one of the tours is pretty small: again for the Pakistan tour the tour of Ireland is just four matches - seems pretty pointless to have a separate page just for that, and I assume the matches against Ireland were just seen as a quick add-on to the main tour of England at the time.
  • As there has been so much debate on Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket on deleting articles/notability of articles, I didn't really want to get dragged into that by churning out lots of very small pages covering minor tours, so found it better to combine them.
  • CricketArchive (and sometimes Cricinfo) list these tours all together, e.g. as Pakistan Women in England and Ireland and list all matches on one page.
  • Hopefully it won't cause too much issue for a general reader - individual tour pages should still redirect (e.g. Pakistani women's cricket team in Ireland in 2013) unless I have missed some, so it should still be accessible even if some people would define the tours separately.
  • This is also relatively common practice for pages that I haven't made (e.g. English women's cricket team in Australia and New Zealand in 1934–35), so there is precedent.

Hope you can understand my thinking! Mpk662 (talk) 13:34, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WT20 links to Twenty20[edit]

Hi. Hope you are having a nice day. I noticed that in every women's cricket articles you create, everywhere on the infobox, you link WT20 to Twenty20. But an article named Women's Twenty20 cricket already exists. So, I will suggest you to link the WT20 to that article, please fix it on every women's cricketers articles you created. Then it will be easier for general readers to go to the WT20 article and read it. Thanks.  A.A Prinon  Leave a dialogue 04:58, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, hope you're well. The problem with that article is that it's not very good - it barely has any information so the Twenty20 article actually provides a better source, in my opinion. So that's why I link to the general/men's article. But thanks for reminding me of this, I was looking for something new to do so I may get round to improving the article soon, so maybe give it a week and then hopefully I'll be able to start changing the links. Cheers, Mpk662 (talk) 07:53, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, please do so. Improving and updating the article will look great.  A.A Prinon  Leave a dialogue 09:17, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Women's Cricket[edit]

As special as you, always for women's cricket, kudos to your work. I'm pleased with your effort on manipulating old seasons of Indian Women's domestic cricket. By the way, I'm also working for that. Anyhow, you finished it Earlier. Here and there, I changed some Cricket Archive links to Cricinfo and BCCI. I hope it helps, Kudos once again. Thanks :-) Kirubar (talk) 03:00, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much, appreciated! And thanks for changing those links, all good - I often get too reliant on CricketArchive. Good luck with any further work on Indian domestic cricket (or anything else), hope you're well! Mpk662 (talk) 11:28, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maia Bouchier[edit]

Hi Mpk662 - hope you are well. For info, the commentary on Sky Sports just mentioned that Maia Bouchier has an Iranian mother. I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything to source this in the article. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:03, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message - yeah I heard this too but again can't find any sources. Will keep an eye out! Hope you're well, Mpk662 (talk) 14:12, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Evelyn or Eve[edit]

Hi mate, was tidying up a couple of templates and came across the Evelyn Jones page again. Are we sure it should be under Evelyn and not Eve. An internet search brings up far more results than Evelyn with the majority of cricketing sites using Eve. It appears to be her WP:COMMONNAME (there was a similar move for Natalie Sciver to Nat for example). I notice that a couple of IPs have changed it to Eve on the page in the past and you've sited MOS for nicknames, but I wouldn't say it's a nickname, it's just a shortening of her name. Let me know your views. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 20:42, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yeah I don't really have a strong opinion either way to be honest. I reverted those changes mainly because they weren't really styled correctly even if the change was going to be made (i.e. not using hypocorisms in parentheses in the lead). I think it's pretty much interchangeable (even her Twitter is Evelyn Jones for her name and @eve_jones!) so that's why I kind of default to her longer name, and Eve Jones redirects anyway. Feel like when I made the page at the start of the season there was a lot less written about her, but since 2021 brought her and women's cricket more generally a lot more coverage Eve has been used a lot more. Anyway, that's a lot of words to basically say I don't really mind, which is why I've left it. If that helps! Hope you're well. Mpk662 (talk) 21:18, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that's understandable, 2021's really been a proper break out year for her along with the increased media coverage of women's cricket. If she'd played international cricket similar time to that Nat Sciver move I'd imagine it would have been a similar situation to that page move as when players are stating out I imagine the cricket database just get their details from player registrations, which likely use full names. Happy to ask to opinions of others on the WikiProject, especially given her winning a PCA award this year. Thanks mate. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 21:24, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

AfD[edit]

Hi Mpk662 - hope you are well. I don't know if you can help or not with sourcing with regards to this AfD. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:27, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: – thanks for the tag, added what I can. Really not a fan of deleting articles of international cricketers, just creates a hole that would be questioned by any casual reader looking at old players - shame we can't find any more sources! Mpk662 (talk) 17:40, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Agree 100%. I've had a look myself, but didn't find anything else, but thought you might uncover something. No worries if you don't, and thanks for taking a look. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:43, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Women's under-19 cricket[edit]

Hello Sir/Madam can you please create the articles on Women's national under-19 cricket teams that Qualified for the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, almost there is no article available on wikipedia about Women's under-19 cricket teams, Exept this (Bangladesh women's national under-19 cricket team) created by the an user few months ago, can you please create the articles of other teams, there is lot of coverage avaliblle on womens's under-19 cricket teams, especially recentlly many countries has announced their squads for 2023 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup squads.

NOTE i'm surprised to see your hard work for Women's cricket, i appreciate it, please keep it up. :D 103.141.159.225 (talk) 22:36, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yep these are on my To Do List, will take some time but hopefully will get a decent article on each qualified team before the tournament starts. Thanks too for your kind words! Mpk662 (talk) 10:06, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, ICC has mentioned in its official website before the 4th place playoffs that those are to decide positions 13-16 so we believe final standings will be released soon. The placements in Super Six is by position and NRR. Flydon Melrick Picardo (talk) 04:24, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I saw that on the ICC website, but the 4th place playoffs don't really decide those positions - ie how to separate the two winners of the matches for 13th and 14th. The Super Six placements aren't official either, just based on comparison between groups which isn't given in any reliable sources. It works for the men's tournament, where they have placement matches, but for the women's tournament there is no official placement of teams past first and second. Sri Lanka women's tour[edit]

Hi, Bro the article (Sri Lankan women's cricket team in England in 2023) I created was recently checked by you and you were satisfied. A user with name 'M.Ashraf333' (can't use the link) who has no recent experience with any cricket page even editing on cricket page was doing wrong with that. It is requested to refrain him from doing so. Thanks. بلال طاہر (talk) 01:35, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, unfortunately I can't really do much about that. In my opinion the page is fine to exist, as it will be needed of course come September so there's no harm in having it now. But the reviewer obviously disagreed raising a legitimate Wikipedia policy. So you can either wait a while until it's closer to the actual tour, or resubmit for a second opinion. Thanks for your work on the page regardless! Mpk662 (talk) 08:29, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Isla Thomson Draft[edit]

Hi there, I recently had a draft for Isla Thomson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Isla_Thomson) rejected and I was wondering if you had any suggestions for edits to help get it approved. I used your article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Geach) as a template and have included a lot of similar references. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide Spal07 (talk) 10:48, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Spal07, determining notability on Wikipedia (whether or not someone should have an article about them) is often more complicated than it seems, especially as there has been a lot of debate/changes recently. A good place to start is Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Official cricket, which lists tournaments that a player playing in will generally make them notable enough for an article - as Thomson hasn't yet played in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy or Charlotte Edwards Cup, it's deemed unlikely that she needs a page (which is why I haven't tried to make one for her yet). From there, people also need to meet the general Wikipedia guidelines, at WP:GNG. Unfortunately, therefore, I don't think that Thomson needs a Wikipedia article yet, although I'm sure she'll be making her Western Storm debut before long! Using "the" for team names[edit]

I'm not going to fight to the death over this, but I think you're wrong about the use of "the" in front of a team's name when that name is not of the form "Name of city FC" and the like. In North America, you can easily check that all our articles use the "The" in front of the name of every professional football, baseball, basketball and ice hockey teams. This is not just an American thing: teams in Australia also use "the" in front of nicknames. Random example: Essendon Football Club nicknamed "The bombers" and a simple Google search shows widespread usage of "The". In the UK, the football teams (among many others) are of the form "Name of city FC" or something of that form where clearly "the" is inappropriate. But when a team is named after, say, an animal as is the case with the Southern Vipers, then "the" is used. Random examples in England across different sports include York Wasps, Bristol Storm, London Mets, Cheshire Phoenix, and so on. Pichpich (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes I agree with you that it is definitely a thing that is used, obviously edit summaries are not the place for nuance, hence my blanket statement! Mainly I reverted your edit just to keep it consistent with all the other pages in English women's regional cricket, where "the" isn't really used as far as I can tell. I've seen Southern Vipers referred to with and without the "the" - although they aren't here, on the reference that's used on the 2023 Charlotte Edwards Cup page. Basically, I just think there's a need to pick one and stick with it, and it's the easiest way to keep it without on all the English women's regional cricket pages. Mpk662 (talk) 21:12, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While trawling through Play-cricket.com for info about the Bryce sisters, I happened upon this interesting page indicating that "Beth Mooney" had played three matches for the Netherlands in the 2014 Women's County Championship. Although I have a vague recollection of having previously read that Beth Mooney had played cricket in the Netherlands, I haven't, in the last few days, been able to find any other reliable source for that info. Is there anything on Cricket Archive confirming that she played those matches (and maybe others, and if so, when) for that team?? Bahnfrend (talk) 04:26, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yep CricketArchive has her playing three matches for the Netherlands in the 2014 Women's County Championship, against Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Gloucestershire. Did a little investigation to check it was the "real" Beth Mooney and found this article which proves she was playing in the country at that time (and CricketArchive also has one scorecard of her playing for Kampong and scoring 126!), so it would stand to reason that it is her playing for the Netherlands. Presumably she's effectively playing as an overseas player even though Netherlands are a national team, but they're basically treated as a domestic team in the context of the County Championship. An interesting one though, might see if I can find out more about it when I have more time! Mpk662 (talk) 08:34, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll have to sign up for CricketArchive when I can afford to do so. I suspect that that page you found didn't show up on my search because it's in Dutch and I was searching on my phone. As you may have guessed, I'm contemplating doing a major upgrade of the Mooney bio, particularly as it's recently been butchered by another editor and the Ashes are approaching. She deserves a better bio than the one she has at the moment. Bahnfrend (talk) 11:21, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Women's A Cricket Teams[edit]

Hi @Mpk662:, do you have any plans to create articles for the "Women's A Cricket Teams"? You can start by creating articles for the participating/playing teams in the 2023 ACC Women's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup, just like all the men's ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup playing teams have articles. 223.123.84.30 (talk) 06:59, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @223.123.84.30: – unfortunately I don't at the moment, simply don't have the time! I have no idea what kind of sources exist for those teams either, but if there are some out there and you're willing, you can always WP:Be Bold and create the articles yourself - I can check them over too if needed. Template:ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup[edit]

Not sure why you added details of a T20 women's tournament Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup to a template for a men's 50 over tournament Under-19 Cricket World Cup here, they're very clearly completely different events (mixing genders and cricket formats too makes no sense). Either way, I've created a separate template {{Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup}} to fix this error. Please be more careful in future. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:37, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph2302 - This was not an error. Before the edit you referenced, the 2023 women's tournament was already on the template, I simply split the template into sections to make the distinction clearer, rather than a weird appending of a women's tournament onto a template up until that point used for a men's tournament. There is nothing about the term 'Under-19 Cricket World Cup' that gives either format or gender (and plenty of templates do mix format + gender!), so at the time, especially with the small number of articles relating to the women's tournament, I think it was was a legitimate move to format the template in that way. However, definitely a good thing now to have a separate template for the women's tournament, so thank you for your work on that. Mpk662 (talk) 10:03, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I noticed you're very active in editing women's cricket articles. Actually, I update scorecards using an automated tool. But, the fixtures for this tournament is not available in Cricinfo. So, it is being very difficult for me to add these manually, as I am not a typing expert. You have been working on the sector for a long time. Can you please add the 15 matches of this tournament?
